Sakiric

Several weeks ago, a friend and I set off on an early morning trail run. It was cooler than it had been most of the fall. I shivered for the first two miles. The stillness in the air and the clear star-filled skies above made a perfect moment for focus and contemplation. As we reached the furthest point in our round trip run, we started to make our way down the canyon.

I love running early in the morning. I find that the calmness allows me to focus on what I really want out my training session. Setting goals and achieving them is the basic model of all athletic achievement. Without goals, finish lines, end zones or home plates, we lack purpose in our endeavor. I recently set several goals, achieved one and failed at another. There was a great deal of learning in both outcomes. And it's with that, that I've set another couple goals to improve.

So that brings us to Sakiric. Having lived among the Mayan descendants in Guatemala, I have an appreciation for the simple way that they live their lives. Some would argue that they live the way they do out of poverty, but I really believe that they choose to adhere to several principles that make their lives, and the lives of their family better. I'll enumerate the four that I've observed, and that will inform the development of Sakiric. First, simplicity. This is the elegance of solution that Steve Jobs always talked about. Second, diligence. This is the constancy of purpose that drives a person to continue, diligence doesn't quit. Third, hunger. This is the force that drives the individual forward, whether for outward accolades or inner satisfaction. Finally, Sakiric. Literally meaning good morning. For us, it embodies everything the sunrise brings with it.

With those four cornerstones, we'll build the foundation for something new and different. What it will turn out to be hasn't been decided. But I believe we have a direction. It's about achievement, it's about accomplishment, it's about failure and opportunity to try again. It's about the new day that's waiting for all of us just past that threshold.

It's Sakiric.
